Big Money, Lawsuit Verdicts
Retail giant Wal-Mart has agreed an $86 million settlement of a wages and vacation pay class action brought by tens of thousands of former California employees who allege they did not receive these monies when the left the organization. According to media reports, some 232,000 former employees will share in the settlement funds. The lawsuit claimed that after the employees left the company Wal-Mart failed to pay them their holiday and overtime wages or earnings within the time period specified by California law.
Albertsons has agreed to pay $15 million to employees who claimed they were owed money after they quit, retired or were fired. The suit alleged that the company failed to pay these employees their final paycheck on the last day of work.
A jury in Georgia has awarded $9.2 million in damages to a former female employee of Alpharetta, a Georgia-based mortgage company, based on allegations that the CEO had sexually harassed and discriminated against her.
